Visual communication day 2

On the second day we begun the day by talking about the course again but more specifically looking at illustrators work that related to our final piece task of creating a typeface and then a slogan based final piece. I was particularly interested in the work of Jean Jullien and Bob Roberta Smith.

I decided to base my idea around the eu and young people, so i began researching into symbols as well as objects associated to the EU.

I then took this idea of using the EU symbols of the starts to create the letters and began working on this.

I decide I liked this and that I wanted the run with this and the typeface for my final piece. I also choose the slogan R EU MINE? as a pun on the arctic monkeys song R U MINE as a comment on the state of the EU negotiations and because this song is so popular with young people.

Now i was happy i began to draft for the final piece and then create it:

I decided to present in the way i have because i wanted too portray it as a love note between two young people as a comment on young people relationship with the EU as well as the people in it. It also like with the song name as is the kind of thing you would expect in a love letter.

Visual communication day 1

On day one of Visual communication we began the day talking about the pathway and then began our task of creating the letter c however we wanted 3 times. I hadn’t found any interesting to work with until i started experimenting with binder clips to create the shape of the letter.

While i was outside however i noticed the individual sections of the parts that made up the exterior of Ravensbourne and was inspired to use waste material and replicate the pattern.

For my final letter c i wanted to push the boundaries in terms of scale and definitions of what makes a c. I came up with the idea if instead of creating the body of the c i start to block out the areas of a window too create the letter c from the negative space. I then played with my phones setting too get the biggest contrast to show the letter.

Foe the final task of the day and a bit of the next day we had too go and find letters from our surroundings and create an alphabet.

3DCP Day 3

The final day of 3DCP was my favourite of the year so far because it was hands on and involved working in teams. The task was we had to create a bridge between 2 table hight enough to go over a table on its side using bamboo sticks, cardboard and elastic bands. We were also only allowed to have to point toughing the floor other than the tables.

My group got straight too work gearating ideas and decided that were were going too create a self sustaing structure that would use suspention.

We began my creating a bamboo frame and splitting it into cardboard brackets in the table. We then created the main bridge section of which we then hung buy elastic bands using suspension too hold the shape and take the  weight of the car that would later test it.

While we had a few issue with the suspension meaning our bridge was a bit bendy it did work in our favour making our bridge unique too the other groups.

This has been my favourite talks so far as i really enjoyed thinking visually and creating a product with a purpose and working with a team too work on individual elements.

3DCP Day 2

The main thing that we worked on on the second day of 3DCP was we had to design and make a structure that could hold up 3 plastic balls from spaghetti and a hot glue gun.

These were my intitial sketches:

We were then asked to draw someone on our table with one line without looking at them as well as drawing a random doodle too force us too start looking outside the box for ways too hold the balls.

From these initial drawing i decided to prioritise form over function and too focus on and idea that did not necessarily have to haolf all 3 balls. This is why i desided to go for a design where i just glued an much of spagetti together and then snaped bits of to make it stand us to the strands at the top could hold a ball.

If i’m honest pretty happy with the design and think that i have thought outside the box and tried something different and while it might not carry out the initial function i think the form of the object is nice.

3DCP Day 1

After a talk about the pathways we were asked to write down birthday present that we had received on an A1 sheet of paper and display this in a visually interesting way. Initially i found this hard as i was too self critical however i eventually just decided too get on with it and and started experimenting and eventually i was happy with the final outcome.

Once we had completed this we were then asked to start cutting it up to create i hanging piece and to remove the white, initially this came as a shock because of the effort that some people had put in. I desired that i would create a spiral style shape by cutting around the letter of which i then hung up. One it was hung up i was then able to see more sections of white and easily cut them out allowing me the have a purely colourful shape hanging.

One we had created and photographed our own work we were then asked to connect them to other people in our group and then eventually too the big centre piece in the middle of the class that contained everyones work.

I thought that the final outcome of these task was amazing, the work is visually appealing and couples with the light as well as the dark it creates a thoughtful image.

Shoot and Final peice creation

IMG_9674.JPG

Thsi was my creative plan for the shoot. I wanted to focus on getting the colour blue and the use of the sky as this was somthing that i had identified in the customer research. I also wanted to include alternative props such as cloths and camaras. We then went out too shoot.

These were some images i liked but didnt make the final piece:

These were the final 3 images:

And this was the final magazine spread:

Im really happy withthe way the shoot turned out. I achieved the 2 main shots i set out to take on the day and the time i used experimenting turned out some really intresting results as you see on the left. I am happy that all the images link back the my reaserch with the image on the left going back to the first research i did for the project and the images on the left coming from the custermer resech and shoot plan.

Fashion promotion work

We started the the fashion promotion session by watching and analysing a Kenzo advert.

IMG_9641.jpg

On of the main things we took from the advert was how unlike convention there wasn’t a dominant focus of the women’s sexuality and instead a focused on the issue of wanting too be yourself.

Next we moved on to a series of creative tasks, the fist was we had too make a prop out of materials that we had brought in and similar to my final piece i chose to focus it around circles. We then had another 15 to do a line drawing of our prop on someone else without looking at the paper as well as matching it to the pace of the music. We then did the same task again but we were asked to take more care as well as focusing it around a new song. We were then given another song too add colour too the image and i found the song quiote flowy so i decided to add some wavy lines in the colour red as that was the colour of the prop.

Our final task was too start too understand customer identity. For our final piece we were going to make a magazine spread from a photoshoot of our paper structure and base it of Wolfgang Tillmans. So to make our final pieace more apealing too our target audience we had to create a mood baord around a Wolfgang Tillmans fan.

In our moodboard we decided to look at colour as well as personalities and accessories.

Development of final piece

Following the experimentation we were doing with creating 3D shapes we were tasked with creating multiple versions of these models alongside some slightly bigger versions, of which we then had to experiment with placing on the mannequin. I took my models of tubes and started modifying them by putting slits in as well as cutting in half and putting back together once flipped.

I enjoyed experimenting with the small version in clusters and in lines but i prefer the visual effect of the large one and thought this was going too be my final piece. However i felt that this was too simple and decided to go back too my research and start working in back to my research.

As you can see that i started to experiment with rolloing up the sides of the piece but desided instead too go back to the tubes and araning them in patterns. I Liked the idea of having some sort of chain and thus why i decided to mate the chain my final piece to be photographed.
