The day the happening actually hapend

I was really happy with the way our happening turned out as i had constant doughts that we had not done enough but once we had set up despite the projector not working well i think what we created looked visually appealing and challenged the geometry of a party as well as paying homage to Bauhaus

One ting we took from the feed back was that the failure us to make sure we could work the projector was an oversight and i do believe that for a big part of our happening we should have put more time into it and done a better job. Another thing that i would have wanted to do if we had more time and money i s fill a whole room with the paper and shapes and play around the the perspectives f the party more.

Bauhaus happening prep day 2

I began day 2 of the happening prep days in a similar vein to day 2. I began by dividing to the team so 2 people worked on our presentation, one person worked on the animations for the projections and the rest carried on with making the bit and bobs for the party. I decided that we should start testing and finding and area for our happening. We looked at 3 different places and decided that we would need a lot more paper than we had realised as well as that we would need to work on making the area darker.

In the second half of the day we began work on our background for our happening which was going to be a space for the projections as well as a visual element with patterns on it.

This was something that was vital we had left time for as we had planed to use tape however we had limited resources as well as it being hard to make circles. We did a few tests with paint and pens before deciding to go with a thick marker.

I thin the day went well again as everyone was happy and had an assigned role to keep busy. The only draw back was we didn’t get to set up and test and actual visualise it in 3d rather than a drawing as well as get a run though of what would actually happen.

Bauhaus happening prep day/ invite creation day

We began this day by splitting up the team as we had to begin our prep for our happening as well as finish creating our moving image invite.  I put myself on the happening creation team and began creating the different elements that we had planned for our party with my team. We managed to create Bauhaus Bunting, party hats, plates and “food” while other parts of the team worked on the animation for our final piece and the moving image invite.

at overall it was a really good day as we worked well together as a team and everyone worked for each other. I would that that despite us not finishing everything we needed for our final happening i think the team moral and everyone coming to believe in the event was more important.

Creating a motion graphics invite

We began the day with a talk from the course leaders from the motions graphics degree course and they spoke about group work as well as the process of working within motion graphics.

Once the talks were over we broke into groups and began brainstorming in our groups and began creating ideas.

We then created a storyboard

Our idea involved a stop motion and taking the normality of a birthday cake and forming the text info on the cake and the messing with the form of the cake. We realised that we would have to create this on Monday and so we began to plan how we would make it then.

Planning our Bauhaus happening

On the second day of the Bauhaus project we come together in our groups to brainstorm and we started coming up with ideas. Two ideas the emerged early on were the idea that we wanted to take the typical birthday party and make it more abstract, as well as we decided that we wanted our happening to revolve around projected animation.

This was our final presentation that contains the sketches of the idea our inspirations as well as our thesis:

Start of Bauhaus birthday project

We began the day with a presentation on Bauhaus and happenings from Olly and Joss in wich we learen about what Bauhaus was as well as the infuential people alongside vasious work from the movement. I found this very helpful as it was a good time to come up with idea and expose myself to world of work i would not normally consider.Screen Shot 2018-11-13 at 09.39.53.png

We then followed break with an introduction to our Bauhaus 100th birthday party brief. The project looks exiting as it is a detachment from the common forms of vidual communications and allows fro plenty f oppertunity to experiment woth forms of ideas and the colours and shapes used.

Making of book cover

On the final day of the manifesto book making project we began the day with a group crit in which we broke up into groups and discussed each others work.

These were my positive comments:

  • Very nice clean style with clashing bold Lino print
  • creative indesign layout with text and images

I am happy with these comments as from the start i wanted to use this project as an opportunity to show of my skills and practice a wide range if illustrating styles as well as using different software.

These were my points of action:

  • Lino print is a little bit messy with thickness of ink
  • doesn’t line up in some places

I think while i didn’t want to compromise on the quality of the print i should have considered more the practice use of it as a paper. In future i will either use a scanned in and printed vision or just use less ink. I will also practise making the end paper line up with the card on just making the card more.

Finishing making of book

We began finishing of our books by gluing a small use of paper to the spine a a bit of each side to create some stability. We then made the hard cover of the book my measuring the size of the book and cutting that out of card of which we wrapped with book cloth and then glued together with the pages of the books.

As great as my book is so far and i am exited now i have these skills there are things that i definitely will be able to improve upon in the construction of the book. One area is the amount of pain t i used on the lino print created an issue as the glue used to out the book together reactivated the pain casing the end pages to sick together and rip my. I would also like to work on ho well i alined to pages of the book with the hard cover.

Printing and early stages of making book

On Monday we began the the first stages of physically make the book that our manifesto would be in. We began by preparing our file to be printed and then working out how to get our own paper that we a bought into the printer so we could print on it.

The printing process took me a while as i kept making mistakes with the setting and working out how to get my paper into the pinter but once i had printed i was really happy with the quality of the pages despite there being some bleed.

Once the pages were printed we cut of the space we had left for bleed and we began to tie the pages together with string. While we were cutting our pages to size we also cut down the end paper that we had made from line and glued the edges to the book near the string to complete this stage of the book.
