Packaging day 2

Today we had a workshop with Angela who helped us previously on the rebrand of library of thing project we did last year. Her workshop was about coming up with as many different ideas of brand concepts as as we could in an amount of time.

I found the workshop from Angela very helpful as I was having ideas but was not communicating these on paper and getting ideas down. The fast and simple nature of just getting as many ideas as possible helped me get rid of these worries and actually see what ideas looked like on paper and whether or not they would work. With everyone doing the same exercise in the class everyone was coming. Up with ideas and I found this was very inspirational an we were able to combine different elements of peoples work and use it in our own.

When the time was done we then had the opportunity to walk round the class and put two ticks next to each persons ideas we liked. This was and interesting task as you were able to give feedback but also receive interesting feedback from the class.

By the end of the workshop i had loads of ideas for possible routes and while i didn’t have any that were very developed or finished yet the workshop did generate many leads that gave we a wide range of ideas to work on.

Packaging brief day 1

We were given a presentation about the layout brief as well as some useful references, we then went to the library and started to collect packaging and rebrands that inspired us and that we found interesting to put in our sketchbook and start the process. We were then given a talk by Dan one of the owners of willow and wax and he spoke about the company and we were able to ask him questions at the end. We were talking notes throughout the introduction and Dans talk so that we had recorded visual references that we liked as well as what is required as deliverables.

The introduction was really helpful as it introduced me to some ideas I would not have considered. The talk from Dan was also really helpful as it allowed me to work out what was required and get a feel of the brand. I feel that my initial stages of the research went well as I looked at a varsity of sources from pentagram to It’s nice that.

I started of my research looking at the work of Pentagram as i really enjoyed how they were able to make each brand identity really unique starting of with a unique brand mark and extending out to multiples representations of what the brand does. On a similar note i also started looking at the work of Pentagram partner Sascha Lobe. I really liked his graphical and simple approach an want to explore weather i can bring elements of his work into my packaging.

Illustration day 3

On the third day of the illustration project we began the day with a drawing workshop from workshop from Soof. I initially though I wasn’t going to like it because I turned up wanting to crack on with my 8 images but once the workshop started I really enjoyed myself. I really enjoyed it because I was so freeing and forced me to look outside the four walls of my work. It also worked really well as we had to work with other people and bounce ideas of each other.

In the second half on the day and over the weekend I began creating my images.

Illustration day 2

We spent day two of the project on a trip to see the V&A. We spent the day walking around and drawing different things. If I am totally honest I found a lot of the stuff quite boring as most of it was far to detailed and the colours thought the work were dull and uninspiring.

Because I found most of the work boring decided to start drawing things that I found interesting. These went on to include different drain they had, really nicely designed chairs, a garment and a tree in a pot. In the last hour of the trip decided to start drawing people and found a really nice view out one of the windows and drew an older woman sat at a chair as well as 2 younger women sat by the water. I was really happy with these images as I think they told narratives. I then went on to draw the full view from the window which was my favourite drawing from the day.

Collaboration brif – Individual work

Day One

Day one I felt that for us to succeed we needed to understand each others talents so I went round and listed what people said they were interested in and what they were good at so we new where to start the brainstorm and what options we had in out pool of talent. We then began our brainstorm. Early on our brand was inspired by Tfl and Ikea and this is what I used as inspiration when designing the collective logo and colour scheme, which are clearly seen in the icon and the use of the colour blue and yellow.

Day 2

We had been working on the idea of rules on the tube and I suggested a sort of plane guide inspired by the photography of Wolfgang Tillmens. I also spent on this day building out the brand identity by using the colours we chose and combining them with art we had made as well as quotes I had found online, to create designs to put on out Instagram.

Day 3

On day 3 I organised people into the roles for the shoot and volunteered to be a model as well as planning the timings of the day. Once we had finished the shoot  I then worked on the final product that had now been changed to a zone inspired by a tube map I found. I made the diagnosis for the zine on photoshop and then added the picture in indesign. I had to do a couple of very costly print run but eventually I it right just in time to present.

Collaboration brief – Group work

Day one

As a group we started the first day by listing what we had in common and listing are talents. In the brainstorm something that began to emerge were ideas about travel and people. We than began talking about these unwritten rules that we have in society and where these come from and this when on to inspire what we called was the Igeea collective. The main inspirations behind the collective were IKEA and Tfl so these when on to inspire the icon and the colour theme of the collective.

Day two

On day two we started planning and working out what our final idea was going to be. We had worked out we wanted to do some parity of the fact that there are these rules that we have on the time that no one speaks about but we all know them. We wanted to create some sort of airplane style guide to these rules.

We spent the rest of the day researching and coming up with ideas for the look of the shoot, design an styling as well as planning the shoot and carrying out the design work.

We also spend some of the day just creating work and building out our brand image.

Day three

We started off day 3 by having a quick briefing before we left for the shoot just to make sure everyone new the roles of the group and that everyone new what we needed. We then left and had the shoot which took about one and a half hours and was really successful. After lunch we got back in our group and divided up the team to work on things like the presentation and finishing and printing the zine. The decision the chance to a zone was insipid by the London tube map.

Final day of branding project

My group began the day early as we wanted to collect all the work together and discuss any changes what we wanted to make the the work. We were all really happy with the work and approved all of it, We then left out one or 2 images that we felt weren’t relevant to the final display.

Because we had come in early it allowed us to work on the display for a lot longer to lay it out nice and clearly label everything. Alice in our group went the extra mile and brought in some props that really brought the stand to life and was a perfect way to round off a throughly enjoyable project.

Over all I couldn’t be happier with this project. I really enjoyed the prices of building a brand as well as a brand image and love hw far this project picked us to achieve this. I also really enjoyed working with people I respected and got on with as it was amazing to work on such a great team.

final logos1

I think the work we created as a group is really fresh and on trend with London branding as well as being professional and efficient. I think we have effectively used the products we were asked to create, to construct a coherent and strong brand that’s easily identifiable and can work in number of places and forms. One last thing that I think we did well as a group was that’s we effectively played to each persons strengths whether it was research, advertising or illustration we used people’s talents and this I feel shines through to the final products.

Second day of branding project

I always seem to have difficulty second days and I think that is because there is this in between in thinking free and finishing the idea where you really have to work and think hard to get the job done to a highly standard. I really struggle with this as I commonly loose faith in myself at this vital moment and it does affect some projects.

Despite this and the day not staring for me well I actually think we wend on the have a really efficient day. I spoke about my concerns with the logo and we worked on it and mate it more professional and I was a lot happier. We then added the colours and made the multiple versions and I was really happy with the final mark.

From here we decided ourselves up to get the final list of criteria ready. Other people took the ideas around the billboards and the Christmas pop up and brought them to life, and it was my job to create the moving image. We had already spoken as a group that we wanted the moving image to display the multiple versions of the illustrated logos with all the colours. so that is what I created with it being an animation of it just flicking between the different variations with the name of the company at the end.

I was really happy with how the group worked again today and how I worked myself. I struggled at the start but overcame this and went on to create something that I’m really proud off in the moving image and our logo.

Branding project day 1

This was a really enjoyable day for me as it was a really creative environment with everyone generating ideas and working for each other.

I think one of the major reasons why this was a success was the fact that we were able to pick our own groups. Unlike in previous years, and I’ll be the first to admit, where picking your friends just meant that you would mostly mess around I felt that this time round working in a team of friends was really enjoyable as we all worked hard for each other and weren’t across to raise and idea or equally not like one. also feel that we were professional but had fun at the same time and it was a real studio atmosphere.

We rated he day with a briefing of the project from Andrea Maloney Of which were were introduced to the the project, what outcomes were required and then she gave us some advice on branding and building brand. We then broke in to group, and mine immediately started work on the research and coming up with ideas on paper.

I think we had a very successiful first day as a team as began the day with good research and had a good ideas creative thinking on paper session from which we went on to finalise the target audience, began research into colour options, initial ideas for billboards as well as come up with the final logo idea and rough sketch.

Super graphics final idea presentation

For my super graphics final idea presentation decided I really wanted to show the unique 2 stages I had to the progression of this project. I decided to show the first stage of the project with the different avenues I was exploring through a presentation, of which I would explain the issues I was having with multiple visual references.

I then decided to use the board to show the workings out I had during the second sage with the research into the new ideas as well as the experimentation and physical representation of the idea I’m a few forms

IMG_0332.JPG

Overall I was happy with the quality of work that I produced. I feel that my work both answers the questions of scale and typography that were asked in the brief of which I worked hard to overcome. A reason why I was unhappy with my previous ideas were that none of them were that original, and were too obvious, as well as this after I talked with a few class mates I discovered that a few other people had had the same ideas and  I really wanted to think of something different.

One of the reasons why I think my ideas had struggled at the start was didn’t do enough depth of research, and instead based my idea to heavily on the space during the Trip to North Greenwich Station. On other occasions this could have been a positive thing however I think the lack of inspiration was what prevented me from taking this project further.
